On June 19, 2019, the Detroit Board of Water Commissioners (BOWC) met and convened a public hearing at Unity Baptist Church, 7500 Tireman, at 6 p.m. This meeting included the commissioners voting on the proposed Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) water, sewerage and drainage rates for fiscal year 2019-2020 that begins July 1 and a public hearing on proposed sewer upgrade projects.
The meeting was also attended by several water activists, who protested the new rate hikes and called for more detailed explanations to the people of Detroit, including members of the People’s Water Board Coalition and Hydrate Detroit.
